  TITLE: State Marketing & Communications Director

REPORTS TO: State Director

LOCATION: Seattle, WA

REASON FOR OPENING: Replacement

POSITION PURPOSE:
Grow public name recognition and mission awareness of the March of Dimes.  Promote chapter programs and fund-raising activities in order to increase consumer & corporate interest in giving to and volunteering for the March of Dimes. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement annual strategic marketing & communications plan to support March of Dimes initiatives.
  • Develop major media contacts at newspaper, magazine, radio, TV and cable outlets and sustain on-going relationships in order to place stories and secure media sponsorships and promotions. 
  • Manage the placement of national PSAs for the Prematurity Campaign. 
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of PSAs, publicity, story placements, and sponsorship impressions.
  • Partner with the fund-raising team to develop and implement marketing plans for major corporate sponsors.
  • Write, design and produce materials that support chapter programs, fund-raising events and donor cultivation including annual report, newsletters and updates to local website. 
  • Manage the image and identity of the March of Dimes brand by guiding all staff and volunteers in the proper use of March of Dimes standards.
  • Manage and provide direction and coaching for part-time communications coordinator located in Eastern Washington.
  • Recruit, train and manage a state marketing & communications committee to advance chapter initiatives and goals.  
  • Assist in the recruitment, training and promotion of ambassador families as spokespersons.
  • Participate as a member of the chapter’s leadership group.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications or related field.
  • Minimum of five years marketing & communications experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications, computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Desktop Publishing required; Photoshop and/or Indesign also preferred).
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in media relations, pitching & placing story angles, problem solving, media promotions, print and editorial services, marketing & communications planning and implementation.
