TITLE: NICU Family Support Specialist (P/T)
REPORTS TO: State Director of Program Services
LOCATION: Oklahoma City, OK
REASON FOR OPENING: Replacement
POSITION PURPOSE:
To develop and implement informational, educational, emotionally supportive and inspirational March of Dimes (MOD) programs to families of NICU babies and to NICU staff within the NICU setting. This is a part-time position (up to 28 hours); some evening or weekend work will be required. Position is housed at the hospital in the NICU, but some time at the MOD Oklahoma City office will be required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement programs developed for NICU Family Support® and utilize evaluation tools to assess effectiveness and success of programs. Programs may require that incumbent administer and facilitate parent coffee hours, arrange guest speakers, implement modules of service, and distribute or make accessible MOD materials and products.
- Collaborate with NICU staff and MOD volunteers to implement NICU Family Support; Recruit, interview, train and coordinate volunteers to provide support to NICU families.
- Develop and facilitate MOD Chapter NICU Action Committee (CNAC) by recruiting professionals and graduate NICU parents and family members.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with NICU administrators, physicians, nurses, social workers, and other staff, as well as NICU parents and extended family members.
- Complete reports for state, regional and national offices.
- Participate in MOD fundraising, media/publicity efforts and events.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Public Health or related field; or license to practice as a registered neonatal nurse; or experience as a NICU parent.
- 1-3 years of work experience delivering services to parents and families in a NICU or other inpatient pediatric or similar setting or experience as a NICU parent.
- Basic knowledge of the emotional and medical issues inherent in a NICU hospitalization.
- Demonstrated ability to easily and sensitively engage parents, families and staff in order to assist in the smooth welcoming of MOD programs, services and materials.
- A dynamic, energetic, empathic individual who enjoys working, providing support to and collaborating with many different types of individuals, families, disciplines, medical personnel and organizations in an intensive care setting.
