  TITLE: NICU Family Support Specialist (P/T)

REPORTS TO: Director of Program Services

LOCATION: Lebanon, NH

REASON FOR OPENING: New Position

POSITION PURPOSE:
Serves as an on-site resource for inpatient ICN families and staff providing support and education by including March of Dimes NICU Family Support programs and activities; participates in or leads ICN quality improvement initiatives; represents Dartmouth as a participant in national March of Dimes NICU Family Support network; promotes and supports the philosophy of patient and family centered care in the ICN.   This is a part-time position (approximately 25 hours); some evening or weekend work may be required.  Position is primarily housed in the hospital near the ICN, but some time at the March of Dimes office will be required.

 



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works collaboratively with the ICN multi-disciplinary team to identify the needs of inpatient ICN families.
  • Implements components of March of Dimes NICU Family Support; maintains close and frequent working relationships with March of Dimes staff and volunteers at state, regional and national levels; participates in relevant March of Dimes trainings/conference calls and March of Dimes fundraising, media and publicity efforts/events
  • Represents families experiences, and needs at various ICN meetings and Quality Improvement initiatives. Participates in ICN meetings and Quality Improvement Projects to represent family needs, perceptions and experiences.
  • Chairs the ICN Parent Council.  Facilitates and implements Parent Council initiatives and coordinates volunteer activities.  
  • Serves as a liaison to the CHAD Family Advisory Board; assists with the enhancement of Patient and Family-Centered Care initiatives throughout the medical center 
  • Provides education to staff, families, and the community about the principles and benefits of Patient and Family-Centered Care.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • A parent or caregiver of a baby who has been a patient in the ICN or a NICU is preferred.  
  • For other non-parent applicants, a license to practice as a registered neonatal nurse is desired or a Masters degree in social work, education, public health or related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.  Good organizational and time management skills. 
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.
