March of Dimes Names Robert Lucas Vice President Of Corporate Relations

New Leadership Role Will Focus On Building Stronger Corporate Relationships Throughout the Country

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., MAY 6, 2003 – In an effort to forge closer relationships with the corporate world, the March of Dimes has named Robert Lucas to the newly-created post of Vice President of Corporate Relations.

Lucas, 44, will be responsible for overseeing national sponsorships and promotions and will work to enhance and expand the Foundation’s corporate relationships across the United States. He was previously at the March of Dimes from 1987 to 1997, as Director of National Sponsorships and Promotions. For the past five years, he was Vice President of Corporate Relations for the American Cancer Society, Eastern Division.

Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes, said Lucas has more than 20 years of experience in building positive relationships between non-profits and corporations.  "We’re very fortunate that Rob Lucas – who brings experience and a true vision of where the March of Dimes is headed – has returned to us.  He’ll be a great asset and will help us grow our already strong national base of support within the business community," Dr. Howse said.

"I’m delighted to be back at the March of Dimes and to have this opportunity to leverage the incredible strength of this organization to help save babies," Lucas said.  "It’s important to broaden our relationship with corporate America and educate employees about how to have a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby."

Part of his job, Lucas said, will be helping the March of Dimes get the message about the growing problem of premature birth out to the public. In January 2003, the March of Dimes launched a five-year, $75 million Prematurity Campaign aimed at increasing awareness of the growing problem and decreasing the rate of premature birth.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies.
