Gary Forsee Elected Chairman of the Board of March of Dimes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., JUNE 18, 2001 – Gary D. Forsee, vice chairman of BellSouth Corporation and president of BellSouth International, based in Atlanta, has been elected chairman of the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, it was announced today.

March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the Foundation and helping it realize its mission to prevent birth defects and infant mortality.

Mr. Forsee has been a volunteer leader of the March of Dimes since 1988. He was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1995, and was named vice chair in 2000. Over the years, he has served as a Board member for the National Capital Area chapter (Washington, D.C.), the Greater Kansas City Area chapter, and the Georgia chapter. He has served as chairman of the March of Dimes WalkAmerica, the foundation’s number one fundraising event, in Kansas City and in Atlanta.

Prior to joining BellSouth in 1999, Mr. Forsee was president and chief executive officer of Global One Communications in Brussels, Belgium. He was previously president and chief operating officer of Sprint’s Long Distance Division.

A native of Missouri, Mr. Forsee holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He and his wife Sherry live in Atlanta. They have two grown daughters, Melanie and Kara, both residing in Missouri.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies.
