WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., MARCH 14, 2006 – LaVerne H. Council, Global Vice President of I/T Global Business Solutions and Development Services for Dell, Inc., has been elected to the National Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.
March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
Ms. Council is a long-time volunteer leader of the March of Dimes. She formerly served as a member of the March of Dimes chapters in Austin, Texas, as well as in Cleveland, Ohio.
Ms. Council holds a B.S. degree with high honors from Western Illinois University and an M.B.A. from Illinois State University. In her position at Dell, Ms. Council is responsible for I/T Globalization initiatives outside of the Americas. This includes driving I/T globalization strategy and global application adoption within the Dell segments across Europe and Asia. In addition, she has responsibility for Global Development Centers in Brazil, Russia and India. Before joining Dell, she was a partner at Ernst & Young Management Consulting Group. In 2004, she was selected by Profiles in Diversity Journal as one of 47 Women Worth Watching.
LaVerne Council and her husband Bennie Council have a son, Troy, age 8, who was born prematurely. Ms. Council says Troy is her inspiration and a source of her dedication to the March of Dimes, which works to help prevent prematurity. "Troy has been a gift to us -- with the kind of wisdom and courage that he's shown," Ms. Council says. "He wakes up smiling and he goes to bed smiling. That's what life is all about. It's not about what you can't do, it's about what you can."
They reside in Austin, Texas.
